Maher Angus Ranch is a family operation that is owned and managed by Casey and Gina Maher and their family. Established in 1917 by Casey’s grandfather, Maher Angus Ranch is located on the southern border of North Dakota just 2 ½ miles northeast of Morristown, South Dakota. Casey is the third generation, representing over 100 years of raising Black Angus cattle.

Maher Angus Ranch:

The Mahers have had 43 years of production sales and will be hosting our 44th annual sale at the ranch this year. Our sale is the first Friday in February and offers 120 yearling bulls, 20 virgin two year old bulls, and 110 home raised heifers calves.

Casey and family manage a purebred herd of 650+ registered Angus mother cows on the grasslands of the Dakotas. Their cowherd is selected diligently for fertility, sound feet and legs, disposition, utter quality and overall performance. They don’t creep feed their bulls or heifer calves – it’s up to the cow.

The Mahers utilize the Angus breed’s top AI sires with proven genetics which they feel will enhance the Maher breeding program.

Our History:

Maher Angus was established by Dan Maher’s father in 1917. Dan purchased his first registered Angus cows in 1970. 

Dan and Gloria have four kids — one son and three daughters — who all grew up near the homestead ranch where Dan was partnered with his brother for several years.  The herd grew over the years, and when Casey (Dan’s son) returned from college, they dissolved the partnership and purchased the current ranch location. 

In 1998 Casey became a partner in Dan’s growing cow herd and extensive AI work began.  Casey and his wife Gina began working with Dan in 2001 and continued to improve and grow the ranch. In December of 2018, Dan chose to retire and pass the torch on to Casey, Gina, and their children.
